TABLE MOUNTAIN
Table Mountain is a must in “Cape Town Attractions”. It is the backbone of the city and offers unparalleled views of the City. Additionally it is on the list of the “7 New World Wonders” and famous for Devil’s Peak and Lion’s Head. Table Mountain, a 1,067m-high, 360-million-year-old icon and a handy point of reference when navigating the City. It’s been a protected area for over 100 years and is home to over 1460 species of fynbos and animals. The quickest way up is with the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway, or, for the more adventurous, there are a variety of exceptional trails to hike.
BO-KAAP
You want an attraction mixed of culture, history and delicious food? Add Bo-KAAP in “Cape Town Attractions”. Bo-Kaap is home to the famous bright rainbow-colored houses and cobblestone streets often seen on postcards, but the neighborhood has a rich history dating back more than 360 years. The houses are a mix of Cape Dutch and Georgian. In fact many of the families in the Bo-Kaap have been living there for generations.
Today the Bo-Kaap community is a significant part of Cape Town cultural heritage. Also it is the birthplace of Cape Malay cuisine and home to historic mosques and cemeteries.
V&A WATERFRONT
The V&A Waterfront is a world-class retail and entertainment area with more than 80 eateries, 450 shops, museums, ocean activities, and fun experiences. The Two Oceans Aquarium makes for a truly fantastic day out for all ages. With more than 3000 marine creatures on view including sharks, turtles and penguins. Street performers are truly amazing to watch in this area. The Waterfront’s Silo Precinct is a cultural hub that is home to the Zeitz Museum of Art Africa.
BEACHES
Are you a beach lover? Well, beaches in Cape Town are top notch in “Cape Town Attractions”. Coastline extends more than 300km long With 72 beaches to choose from. Water-based sports such as surfing, stand-up paddleboarding, kite-surfing and diving are very popular.
Cape Town is also the home to 10 international Blue Flag beaches including Bikini, Camps Bay, Mnandi, Strandfontein, Muizenberg, Fish Hoek, Llandudno, Clifton 4th, Melkbosstrand and Silwerstroom.
ROBBEN ISLAND
Robben Island is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In fact it is the symbol the oppression of the Apartheid government. Nelson Mandela, alongside many other political prisoners, spent 18 years of his 27 years in prison.
The tour begins at the Nelson Mandela Gateway at the V&A Waterfront. It includes multimedia exhibition and a scenic trip to the island. Once on Robben Island itself, the tour is guided by a former political prisoner of the island, for unique insights into the island’s history. The tours (including the ferry trips) usually last about three-and-a-half hours.
KIRSTENBOSCH NATIONAL BOTANICAL GARDEN
Situated on the slopes of Table Mountain, Kirstenbosch is regarded as one of the great botanical gardens of the world. The 528-hectare estate contains over 7,000 species of plants from southern Africa. Visitors can check out the 130m-long Centenary Tree Canopy Walkway – known as the Boomslang.
BOULDERS BEACH
Ever wanted to see Penguins up close? You must visit Boulders Beach in “Cape Town Attractions”. It is near Simon’s Town and has ancient granite boulders. These boulders protect it from the wind and large waves, making it an ideal swimming spot for kids. However, it’s the local inhabitants -a colony of African penguins – that draw the most attention. You can see the penguins and enjoy this funny and cute birds. This is the place everybody will absolutely enjoy it.
GROOT CONSTANTIA
The oldest wine farm in South Africa offers more than just fine wine and delicious food. Visitors can also learn more about Cape Town’s history at the museum in the old Manor House. Be sure to sample some of the estate’s dessert wine- Grand Constance. It was so famous in the nineteenth century (then known as Constantia Wyn). Additionally even found its ay into the works of Jane Austen and Charles Dickens.
CAPE POINT
OMG!! Please add Cape Point in “Cape Town Attractions”. You will see spectacular views of the Atlantic and False Bay coastlines right off some high cliffs. Spend some time in the nature reserve where visitors are likely encounter baboons, Ostrich, mountain zebras, buck, and at least some of the 250 species of bird. Don’t miss ride up to the lighthouse on Flying Dutchman Funicular for some spectacular views!
