The Goods, The Bad and the Ugly 👧👧🏻 Things To Know Before Getting Your Child Into Modeling
You like your kids into modeling? Modeling agencies and companies are always looking for new faces, so any type of skin, body shape, face and size will have a chance.
But these are the main things you need to know before getting kids into modeling:
1– Is modeling something your child would enjoy or it’s just your dream to get your kids into modeling industry? Is he/she friend with camera? Is he/she comfortable to be around other people?
2– Follow the direction: Knowing basics in modeling and posing is critical before getting kids into modeling, from how to stand, moving heads, shoulders inches up/down or left/right can be mastered even by a 4 years old. But practice makes perfect, the more your kid watches others posing and try to imitate, the better. As long as your kid knows the basic and follows the direction, it will be an ease.
3– Being patient: patience is a must in “getting kids into modeling” as sometimes during the shooting. There are some long waiting times, so if your loved one gets bored quickly, then probably isn’t a right career.
4– Flexibility is a key in “Getting Kids into Modeling”. You need to be a parent with a flexible schedule, if you like your kids into modeling. Short notices for castings and callbacks can be annoying because it usually happens with less than a week’s notice (sometimes 24-hour notice).
Be prepared for that. If you are not living in hubs like New York or Los Angeles, start working with local agencies. We started with an agency in New York. You can imagine the traveling cost and last minute flight booking. Many times we decided to spend money and when we showed up for audition, there were over 100 kids waiting to be seen and you are just one additional person in the room and the audition is only few minutes. It requires significant financial and time commitment. Handling the rejection is a must if you ended up having your kids into modeling. Make sure you and your kid can handle rejections.
5– Upfront “start-up” money for your comp card. Models need to prepare comp card, which will need professional headshot photos. Also traveling to/from casting locations will take toll. So thinking about what market locations you will prefer to work is also another factor. I mentioned that in previous paragraph as well.
6– Get experience: Experience can help a lot, specially for kids that increases their self confidence. If your kid is a beginner, he/she can start with any low payment jobs, or even unpaid ones, they are fun and educational.
As you build the self confidence and resume, makes it much easier for bigger opportunities.
